Our Advisor Team
John S. Lyons
President and Founder
John
Lyons began his investment career in 1969 with a well-known Wall Street
brokerage firm. He quickly became disenchanted by the failings
of
"buy-and-hold" and by the lack of guidance from his employer so in the
mid-1970s, John embarked on a campaign to identify ways to protect
investors from damaging losses while still providing the returns
available over time through equity investing. Through this process,
John became a pioneer in the area of active management, developing
methodologies for determining when market risk was appropriate for
investing and when it was too high to be invested. The result was a
risk analysis model that he began to utilize in 1978 and that, with
minor adjustments, is still the hallmark of the JLFMI investment
approach.
During his career, John has held licenses to deal
in stocks, bonds, options, commodities and insurance products and has
also been involved in international real estate projects and venture
capital. He was also a regular on Chicago's WCIU TV business program
"Ask an Expert" for 20 years. John is a charter member and formerly
served on the board of directors of The National Association of Active
Investment Managers (NAAIM), a professional group of active money
managers who collectively manage approximately $15 billion. He holds a
Series 65 Uniform Investment Advisor License.
John is a graduate of Duke University.
